Mirela’s Story

It’s never too late to change your career!

Mirela spent the majority of her working life as a hairdresser but decided in her 40s that a change of career was needed, proving that it’s never too late to start a new journey in life! A friend of hers was already working in the dental industry and Mirela felt that the people skills she had as a hairdresser could translate well to this new and interesting profession.

Excited to find out more, she contacted a training provider (who shall remain nameless!) and annoyingly they didn’t answer the phone. With a little help from Mr Google, Mirela found SmileWisdom, read the great reviews online and her call was picked up instantly by Mike (our Co-founder).

Mirela was a little worried that with English being her second language she might not get to grips with all the dental terminology but Mike soon reassured her that her English sounded pretty good. Having been a hairdresser for 20 years, Mirela took the plunge and got started with SmileWisdom.

“With SmileWisdom, the human touch is there. The staff are very supportive. Mike was really encouraging and Becky so patient with all my calls!”

Mirela started working at Harrow Dental Practice during her training and has been there ever since, qualifying in September 2021. She really felt SmileWisdom gave her the support and confidence to go out into practice and start working as a trainee dental nurse. Even the 1.5-hour commute there and back doesn’t stop her as she’s so happy to work there!

Having good people skills from her many years in hairdressing has been really beneficial to her new role and being able to empathise with patients is key. One of the many benefits of dental nursing is that it’s a job you can leave behind at the end of the day once you walk out the practice doors. Having that time to yourself is really important these days.

Mirella finishes off her story telling us how happy she is:

“I love the people at my practice, it’s like a family. I go into work singing every day!”

Changed career to follow her dreams

Mirella’s story is wonderful. Not everyone knows what they want to do immediately and for some of us, it takes time to find the right path. Mirella’s love of dentistry and dental nursing is a joy to see and we wish her every success.
