DENTAL NURSE SUCCESSES

SUCCESSFUL DENTAL NURSES

SmileWisdom Alumni celebrates Farkhunda

Meet Farkhunda , who successfully followed her dreams, completed her NEBDN Diploma in a Dental Nursing and overcame hurdles to get her first trainee dental nurse position

“When I arrived in the UK in 2009 I heard from friends what it was like working in dentistry and they suggested there was good job availability, but life events happened and it was never the right time for me to go for it. When the pandemic hit and we were all in lockdown, I started to re-think my career direction and more than 10 years after the initial dream I was finally able to begin my dental nurse journey.

“It can be harder to find the right practice if you have limited availability like myself because a lot of practices would like a full-time dental nurse – but the right practice is there for everyone. I am so glad I didn’t give up. Never give up!”

Getting my first trainee dental nurse job was not easy for me and I almost gave up on my dream twice. At times I was very disappointed that I didn’t yet have a job and worried I would never get one. But I continued to go to Josh and Mike for help and encouragement which helped me stay on the course and keep trying with the guidance they gave me.

Initially, I had several interviews that didn’t lead to a job offer. I learnt a lot from those interviews to help improve – and also from 1-to-1 interview preparation with Josh and Mike. I adjusted my interviewing technique and the next 2 interviews I had led to a job offer. And now I work in a lovely practice that is perfect for me!

I enjoy my classes and am really happy with the teaching. Liz, my SmileWisdom tutor is great! I love how she teaches, the words she uses to explain everything – she makes it easy to learn.

Now I really I enjoy being a trainee dental nurse. It is physically and mentally good for me. It can be harder to find the right practice if you have limited availability like myself because a lot of practices would like a full time dental nurse – but the right practice is there for everyone. I am so glad I didn’t give up. Never give up!

My advice is to be patient and follow what Mike and Josh say. I believe 100% you will get the job. It can take time so you must be patient, but now I know this for sure: you will get the job.”
